How Long Does It Take to Build a Patio in Oklahoma? Timeline Guide

by | May 19, 2026 | Uncategorized

One of the most common questions we hear at VistaScapes & Design is: “How long will this take?” It’s an understandable concern — you’re excited about your new outdoor space and want to start enjoying it as soon as possible. Here’s a realistic guide to construction timelines for outdoor living projects in northeast Oklahoma.

From First Call to Construction Start

The process starts before any construction begins. After your initial consultation, you’ll receive a design proposal and estimate. Once you approve the design and sign a contract, the project enters the scheduling queue. In our market, lead times for outdoor living projects typically run 4–10 weeks depending on the season and current backlog. Spring and early summer (March–June) are the busiest and have the longest wait times. Fall projects (September–November) often have shorter wait times.

For projects requiring permits (covered structures, electrical, gas, plumbing), add 2–4 weeks for permit processing through the City of Broken Arrow, Tulsa, or the relevant municipality. We handle permit applications as part of your project.

Construction Timeline by Project Type

Basic Concrete Patio

For a standard 300–400 sq ft concrete patio with broom finish or light decorative work: 2–4 days of active construction. Day 1: excavation, base installation, compaction. Day 2: form setting and concrete pour. Day 3 (next day): form removal. Full cure to foot traffic: 48–72 hours. Full structural cure: 28 days (you can use it much sooner, but heavy loads should wait).

Stamped/Decorative Concrete Patio

Same base work, plus additional time for stamping, color, and detailing. Typically 3–5 days of active construction. Stamped concrete has a critical timing window during the pour — weather conditions significantly affect the process, which is why contractors sometimes have to reschedule around rain or temperature extremes.

Paver Patio

A paver patio takes longer per square foot than concrete: excavation and base work (1–2 days), followed by paver installation (1–3 days depending on size and pattern complexity), edge restraint installation, and jointing. A 300 sq ft paver patio typically takes 3–5 days of active construction. The patio is usable as soon as the joint sand has been installed and activated — no curing period.

Pergola or Covered Patio

Structure installation after the patio surface: 2–5 days depending on size and complexity. Simple wood pergola: 2–3 days. Aluminum structure: 3–4 days. Full covered patio with roofing, electrical, and fans: 5–10 days. Permit processing adds 2–4 weeks to the total timeline but happens before construction begins.

Outdoor Kitchen

The variable here is appliance lead time — particularly during high-demand periods, premium grills and refrigerators can have 4–8 week shipping windows. Once all materials are on-site: masonry and framing (3–5 days), countertop fabrication and install (separate trip, 1 day), appliance installation (1 day), utility connections (1 day). Total active construction: 6–10 days.

Full Outdoor Living Space (Patio + Cover + Kitchen + Fireplace)

A complete outdoor living transformation is typically a 3–6 week construction project. Components may be built sequentially or with overlapping phases depending on crew availability and material delivery schedules. Permit processing time (2–4 weeks) runs concurrently with material procurement, so the total elapsed time from contract signing to completed installation is typically 8–16 weeks depending on season and scope.

Weather Delays in Oklahoma

Oklahoma’s weather is genuinely unpredictable. Spring rain events, late freezes, and summer heat extremes can all push construction schedules. Concrete cannot be poured in rain or below 40°F. Paver installation can continue in most weather except heavy rain. We communicate proactively about weather-related schedule changes and minimize delays wherever possible, but there are limits to what any contractor can control.
