Natural Stone Contractor in Broken Arrow, OK

Natural stone is the oldest and most enduring outdoor building material in existence. At VistaScapes & Design, we work with natural stone throughout our outdoor living projects — flagstone patios, stacked stone walls, natural stone fireplace facing, stone fire pit surrounds, and stone pathway systems. The character, color variation, and permanence of natural stone creates outdoor living features that look more beautiful with age and tell a story that manufactured materials can’t replicate.

Working with natural stone correctly requires real skill — understanding how different stone types behave in Oklahoma’s climate, how to set them properly on adequate bases, and how to cut and fit irregular stone pieces for clean, professional results. We bring that expertise to every natural stone project we build in Broken Arrow.

Natural Stone Work We Do in Broken Arrow

Flagstone Patios

Random-pattern or cut flagstone patios using Oklahoma limestone, sandstone, or imported flagstone. We set flagstone on appropriate bases for Broken Arrow’s clay soil: either on a compacted sand and gravel base (dry-set, allows minor movement) or on a reinforced concrete slab with full mortar setting (maximum stability on good concrete). Joints are filled with mortar for a clean look or planted with creeping thyme, Irish moss, or other low-growing ground covers for a naturalistic feel.

Stacked Stone Retaining Walls

Dry-stack stone retaining walls — built without mortar — have a natural, organic quality and allow water to drain through the wall itself, eliminating hydrostatic pressure. We build stacked stone walls in fieldstone, limestone, and sandstone with proper battering (lean back into the slope), adequate base, and correctly placed through-stones for stability. Mortared stone retaining walls are also available where greater structural precision is needed.

Stone Seating Walls

Low stone walls (18-24 inches tall) that create built-in seating around fire pits, along patio perimeters, or as garden borders. Capped with flat stone to provide a comfortable, durable seating surface. Stone seating walls eliminate the need for outdoor furniture in designated seating areas and create a permanent, built-in quality that most patios benefit from enormously.

Natural Stone Fireplace Facing

The exterior face of an outdoor fireplace is where natural stone has its most dramatic impact. We apply fieldstone, ledgestone, or quarry stone to outdoor fireplace structures using proper mortar mix ratios and the skilled hand of an experienced stone mason. The result is a fireplace face that looks like it was built from solid stone — beautiful, timeless, and distinctive.

Natural Stone Fire Pit Surrounds

Natural stone fire pits — built from fieldstone, limestone, or quarry rock — have the most organic, campfire-appropriate aesthetic of any fire pit material. We build fire pits from stone with proper concrete footing and drainage design, creating a built-in fire feature that looks completely at home in an Oklahoma landscape.

Stone Pathway and Step Systems

Flagstone pathways through garden areas, stone stepping paths across lawn, and natural stone step systems between grade changes — set with proper spacing, consistent elevation, and appropriate joint width for comfortable foot traffic. Stone pathways define circulation through the landscape while adding a naturalistic character that concrete paths can’t match.

Natural Stone Materials We Work With

  • Oklahoma limestone: Locally sourced, cream to buff coloring, excellent durability — our most commonly used flagstone material
  • Sandstone: Warm earth tones, excellent Oklahoma climate performance when properly sealed
  • Travertine: Dense, beautiful, stays cool in summer sun — excellent for pool surrounds and patio areas
  • Fieldstone: Random-shape rock used for walls, fire pits, and rustic feature work
  • Ledgestone: Thin, flat stone used for facing fireplaces, retaining walls, and outdoor kitchen structures
  • Quarry stone: Larger irregular pieces for substantial features and walls
