Broken Arrow’s Outdoor Fireplace Contractor
Building an outdoor fireplace isn’t complicated — building one that works correctly and lasts for decades is. VistaScapes Design is Broken Arrow’s outdoor fireplace specialist, building custom stone, brick, and stucco fireplaces with the engineering and craftsmanship that separates a fireplace you’ll use for 30 years from one that smokes your face and falls apart in five.
What We Build Every Time — No Exceptions
Independent Concrete Footing
A full masonry fireplace weighs between 2,000 and 10,000 pounds depending on size. It must be built on its own reinforced concrete footing sized for the load — not on the patio slab beside it, which will settle differently. We dig to proper depth for Oklahoma’s frost line and pour a footing engineered for the fireplace weight above. This is non-negotiable.
Proper Smoke Chamber Geometry
The smoke chamber — the tapered section between the firebox and the flue — must be built at specific angles and proportions to create the draft that pulls smoke up the flue rather than back into your face. Getting this geometry wrong means a fireplace that smokes badly. We build smoke chambers correctly every time.
Quality Flue Tile System
Flue liner tiles protect the surrounding masonry from combustion gases and provide the smooth, consistent interior surface that promotes proper draft. We use quality flue tiles installed at correct angles through the full height of the chimney. The flue size is calculated against the firebox opening — an undersized or oversized flue causes drafting problems.
Spark Arrestor Cap
A stainless steel spark arrestor cap at the chimney top keeps burning embers from landing on your roof or landscaping. It also keeps water, animals, and debris from entering the flue when the fireplace isn’t in use. Required by most Broken Arrow HOAs and a basic safety measure on every fireplace we build.
Refractory Mortar in the Firebox
The firebox interior must be built with high-temperature refractory mortar, not standard masonry mortar. Regular mortar deteriorates rapidly under repeated high-temperature exposure. We use the right materials where they matter.
Fireplace Exterior Finishes
We build outdoor fireplace exteriors in:
- Natural fieldstone – Hand-picked and laid stone creates the most organic, timeless appearance
- Quarried limestone – Oklahoma limestone in chopped or irregular formats
- Traditional brick – Classic and durable, ideal for traditional home styles
- Stucco over block – Clean, contemporary finish with optional stone accents
- Stone veneer over block – Natural stone appearance at lower structural weight and cost
Gas & Wood-Burning Options
We build both wood-burning and gas outdoor fireplaces in Broken Arrow. Gas fireplaces include gas line rough-in (coordinated with a licensed plumber), gas log set installation, and ignition system. Wood-burning fireplaces include the full masonry firebox, smoke chamber, and flue system. We also build convertible fireplaces that accommodate both fuel types.
