Outdoor Concrete Countertops in Broken Arrow — Custom BBQ Island Surfaces

A well-built outdoor kitchen deserves a surface that can handle heat, grease, Oklahoma weather, and years of use without looking worn. Concrete countertops are one of the best choices for BBQ islands and outdoor kitchens — they’re durable, customizable, and look like they belong in a high-end outdoor space rather than an afterthought.

VistaScapes pours and finishes custom outdoor concrete countertops in Broken Arrow and across the Tulsa metro. If you’re building a BBQ island, outdoor bar, or custom sink counter, we handle the forming, pouring, curing, and sealing.

Why Concrete for Outdoor Countertops

Unlike indoor countertops where granite and quartz dominate, outdoor surfaces face challenges those materials struggle with — UV fading, freeze-thaw expansion, water pooling, and direct flame exposure near the grill. Concrete handles all of these well when it’s mixed and sealed correctly.

  • Heat resistance — Concrete tolerates incidental heat from grills and doesn’t crack from thermal shock the way some natural stone does
  • Custom shapes — We pour to any shape, so L-shaped islands, curved bars, and integrated sink cutouts are all possible
  • Color and texture control — You choose the color, aggregate, and finish before we pour
  • Repairability — Minor chips or cracks can be filled and resealed without replacing the whole slab
  • Weight stability — Concrete is heavy, which stabilizes lighter-frame islands and prevents shifting

Our Concrete Countertop Process

Forms and Reinforcement

We build wood or melamine forms on-site around your island structure. Cutouts for the grill, side burner, sink, and any other inserts are built into the form before pouring. Rebar or fiberglass mesh is placed in the form for crack resistance.

Mix Design

We use a modified mix with higher cement content and lower water-cement ratio than standard flatwork concrete. This reduces shrinkage and increases density. Integral color pigments are mixed in before pouring so the color goes all the way through — surface chips don’t show raw gray.

Pour and Finish

The concrete is poured and screeded level, then finished based on your selected texture. Smooth trowel finish gives a clean modern look. Exposed aggregate or brushed surfaces provide grip and visual texture. Acid staining after curing creates earthy, mottled tones.

Curing and Sealing

Concrete needs 5–7 days minimum cure time before sealing. We apply a penetrating sealer first to reduce porosity, then a topcoat sealer rated for outdoor UV and water exposure. Sealer should be reapplied every 2–3 years depending on use.

Integration with VistaScapes Outdoor Kitchens

If you’re building a full outdoor kitchen, we can design and install the entire project — CMU block island structure, concrete countertops, stone veneer, grill integration, and surrounding hardscape. Or, if you have an existing steel-frame island that needs a countertop upgrade, we can pour directly over the existing structure.

We also pour concrete for outdoor bars, serving counters near pool areas, and decorative caps on retaining walls and planters.
