Outdoor Kitchen Built-In Grill Brands — What VistaScapes Recommends for Oklahoma

A built-in grill is the centerpiece of an outdoor kitchen — and it’s also the component that separates outdoor kitchens that get used daily for years from those that develop problems within the first few seasons. Oklahoma’s outdoor kitchen environment is demanding: summer heat pushes ambient temperatures past 100°F, humidity fluctuates dramatically between seasons, and grills in outdoor kitchens are typically used more frequently than standalone portable grills because the outdoor kitchen makes cooking outdoors easy.

After building outdoor kitchens throughout Broken Arrow and the Tulsa metro, here’s what we know about grill selection and what we regularly install.

What Makes a Good Outdoor Kitchen Grill

Not all grills are appropriate for outdoor kitchen applications. The built-in environment — where the grill is integrated into a masonry structure with surrounding countertops — creates specific requirements:

  • Outdoor-rated construction: The grill must be designed for year-round outdoor exposure, not just covered storage. This means 304 or 316 stainless steel construction throughout, not just the exterior surfaces.
  • Appropriate BTU for outdoor cooking: Outdoor kitchens lose heat to the environment more than indoor ranges — you need a grill with enough BTU output to sear properly in outdoor conditions. Under-powered outdoor grills produce mediocre results.
  • Drop-in or built-in configuration: The grill must be available in a format that installs properly in a masonry kitchen surround — with appropriate clearances for the structure, venting requirements, and access for gas line connection.
  • Service and parts availability: Premium built-in grills are long-term investments. The manufacturer should have a parts program and service network that will support the grill in year 10, not just year 1.

Grill Brands We Regularly Install

Blaze Grills — Best Value for Quality

Blaze has become the most popular built-in grill brand in the outdoor kitchen market over the past several years, and for good reason: they build solid 304 stainless grills with excellent BTU output, a lifetime warranty on burners and cooking grids, and a wide range of accessory options (side burners, refrigerators, drawers) that are compatible with the same kitchen surround dimensions. We install Blaze regularly in Broken Arrow outdoor kitchens for clients who want quality without the premium price of luxury brands.

Lynx Grills — Premium Performance

Lynx is one of the original premium built-in outdoor grill brands and maintains excellent build quality. Lynx Professional series grills have the ceramic briquette system that produces better heat distribution and the classic outdoor grill sear. They’re heavier, more complex, and more expensive than Blaze — appropriate for clients who are building top-tier outdoor kitchens and want a grill that performs at that level.

DCS (Dynamic Cooking Systems)

DCS grills are commercial-heritage products built with chefs in mind. The Brushed Stainless finish, the ceramic radiant technology, and the build quality are all excellent. DCS is particularly well-suited to clients who care about cooking performance — serious grillers who want professional heat control and consistent results. They’re also very serviceable — parts are available and the design is straightforward to maintain.

Twin Eagles — Best in Class

Twin Eagles is an American-made built-in grill brand with exceptional build quality. The 304 stainless construction is heavier gauge than most competitors, the heat distribution is excellent, and they offer one of the most comprehensive warranty programs in the outdoor grill market. Twin Eagles is our recommendation for clients building $60,000+ outdoor kitchens who want the very best grill available. The price point reflects the quality.

Fire Magic — Long Track Record

Fire Magic has been building outdoor grills since 1937 — they have the longest track record in the built-in grill market. The Echelon Diamond series in particular is an excellent grill with a backlit control panel, cast stainless burners, and a design that handles outdoor exposure extremely well. Fire Magic is a reliable choice for any outdoor kitchen build.

Brands We Don’t Install

We don’t install residential box store grill brands — Char-Broil, Weber (standard models), or the various unbranded “outdoor kitchen grill” products sold as drop-in kits. These are designed for freestanding or portable use and don’t have the construction quality for sustained outdoor kitchen exposure. They also have limited parts availability after a few years.

We also avoid ultra-cheap “commercial appearance” grills sold online without established brand support. The outdoor kitchen market has attracted a lot of low-quality products aimed at the built-in aesthetic at the lowest possible price — and they perform accordingly.

Sizing Your Grill for Your Kitchen

We size the grill based on two factors: how many people you typically cook for, and how the kitchen structure needs to be laid out.

  • 30-inch grill: Right for couples or small families, or where kitchen width is constrained. Approximately 525–600 sq in of cooking surface.
  • 36-inch grill: The most popular size for Broken Arrow outdoor kitchens — enough surface to cook for 6–8 people comfortably. Approximately 650–750 sq in cooking surface.
  • 42-inch grill: For households that regularly cook for 10+ people or do large cuts (whole briskets, multiple racks of ribs). Approximately 800–900 sq in cooking surface.

Discuss Grill Selection for Your Broken Arrow Outdoor Kitchen

When you schedule a consultation with VistaScapes, we walk you through grill selection as part of the kitchen design process — not as an afterthought. The grill determines the kitchen width, the BTU requirements for the gas connection, and the venting requirements in the kitchen structure surround.
