Pool Deck Materials We Install
- Brushed or broom-finished concrete: The most common pool deck surface; proper texture provides excellent wet traction; sealing with a non-slip additive in the sealer is standard for pool applications
- Travertine: Natural stone that stays cool even in direct Oklahoma sun — one of the biggest comfort advantages over concrete; beautiful patterned surface; requires sealing in our climate
- Concrete pavers: Individual paver units with joint spacing that provides natural drainage and traction; can be lifted and replaced if a tree root or settling causes a problem
- Exposed aggregate: Textured surface that provides natural slip resistance; comfortable on bare feet; popular around informal pool settings
- Stamped concrete (flagstone or slate patterns): Decorative concrete with stone-like appearance; requires proper anti-slip sealer additive around pools
Pool Deck Design Considerations
We plan pool decks with drainage in mind — all surfaces slope away from the pool and toward proper drainage collection. In Broken Arrow’s clay soils, settling can cause drainage to migrate back toward the pool over time, so we take extra care with sub-base compaction around pool surrounds. We also plan for furniture zones, entry/exit points, and any shade structures that are part of the poolside living plan.
